  • About The Role

  • We are seeking a competent and proactive Health & Safety Advisor to support the delivery of the MEH Alliance scope of works on Hinkley Point C (HPC). The role will play a key part in ensuring that the highest health, safety, environmental and welfare standards are consistently maintained across the project.

Working as part of the integrated site Health & Safety team, the successful candidate will provide competent H&S advice across a multidisciplinary project environment, monitor working practices, undertake site inspections and observations, and support incident management and investigation activities. The role will also provide specialist advice on identified topics, particularly the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), while championing the HPC Way and promoting a positive, proactive safety culture across MEH employees and subcontractors.

The postholder will build effective working relationships with other Tier 1 contractors and the Principal Contractor, supporting the consistent implementation of MEH policies, procedures and site requirements within a highly regulated and safety-critical nuclear construction environment.

    Key Deliverables / Accountabilities

    • Ensure the health, safety and environmental standards of the HPC project are consistently met across MEH activities.
    • Champion the HPC Way, promoting its pillars and embedding a positive health and safety culture across the workforce.

    • Carry out all duties in full accordance with MEH policies, procedures, standards and site requirements.
    • Build and maintain effective working relationships with other Tier 1 contractors, the Principal Contractor, subcontractors and relevant site stakeholders.
    • Monitor the working practices of MEH employees and contractors to ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and welfare requirements.
    • Conduct HSE inspections across the site, including work at height, confined spaces and other higher-risk activities, identifying areas of concern and opportunities for improvement.
    • Identify and report trends, recurring issues and areas of non-compliance to the relevant discipline manager as soon as they are identified.
    • Complete a minimum of one site inspection and one observation of MEH site activities and subcontractor operations per shift, recording findings within the Insight system.
    • Intervene promptly when unsafe acts or working practices are observed, providing practical solutions and supporting the implementation of corrective actions.
    • Provide competent specialist advice on identified health and safety topics, specifically COSHH, ensuring relevant controls are understood and implemented.
    • Ensure MEH's duty-of-care responsibilities are fulfilled following incidents, supporting the appropriate response, reporting and follow-up actions.
    • Play an active role in accident and incident management, investigation and the identification of lessons learned to prevent recurrence.
    • Maintain a sound knowledge and understanding of MEH site procedures and monitor compliance through regular engagement and observation in the field.
    • Support training and development activities, helping to build H&S capability and supporting the development of subject matter experts.
    • Provide support, as required, to all MEH site HSESS functions and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities that are reasonably commensurate with the level of the post.

    Key Requirements / Qualifications

    • Relevant health and safety qualification, such as NEBOSH National General Certificate or an equivalent recognised qualification.

    • Experience undertaking site inspections, safety observations and monitoring contractor compliance.
    • Ability to identify unsafe practices, intervene effectively and recommend practical, proportionate control measures.
