  • About The Role

  •    

    Mechanical Fitter

    Altrad are currently looking for experienced Mechanical Fitters to join the team for Outage Works.

    This role will involve working 13 Days On, 1 Day Off – 12 Hour Shifts, Mobilisation Start Date 12/10/2026.

    The position is paid under the NAECI agreement, with lodge and travel paid where applicable.

     

    Key Deliverables:

     

    • Read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings, general arrangement drawings, P&IDs, maintenance documentation and method statements to determine work requirements.
    • Carry out the assembly, installation, maintenance, overhaul and testing of mechanical plant and equipment.
    • Assist with the removal and replacement of heat exchanger components, including channel covers, pipework, studs, gaskets and associated equipment.
    • Support the safe extraction and reinstatement of heat exchanger bundles using appropriate lifting and handling techniques.
    • Perform strip down, inspection, rebuild and installation activities on heat exchangers, valves and associated mechanical equipment.
    • Carry out pressure testing and leak testing of equipment where required, ensuring compliance with site procedures and quality standards.
    • Assist with flange management activities, including bolt tightening and gasket installation.
    • Carry out precision alignment, lining and levelling of mechanical plant and equipment.
    • Use hand and machine tools to shape, prepare, assemble and fit mechanical components.
    • Operate workshop equipment including lathes, drills and pipe preparation machinery where appropriately trained and authorised.
    • Conduct testing, fault finding and adjustment of mechanical plant and equipment using approved procedures.
    • Support the Safety Valve Team when required, including the removal and replacement of pressure safety valves.
    • Assist with the safe handling and transportation of valves to and from test facilities.
    • Support the reinstatement and leak testing of pressure safety valves following maintenance and testing activities.
    • Prepare work areas, materials and equipment prior to commencing activities, ensuring all safety requirements are met.
    • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with approved method statements, risk assessments, permit-to-work systems, POWRA requirements and site safety procedures.
    • Reinstate equipment and work areas to a safe condition following completion of work activities.
    • Maintain high standards of housekeeping within work areas throughout the work scope.
    • Participate in toolbox talks, safety observations and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Identify and report defects, issues and opportunities for improvement.
    • Provide guidance and support to Mechanical Fitter Trainees where required.
    • Work closely with clients, supervisors, coordinators and other disciplines to ensure work scopes are completed safely and efficiently.
    • Maintain high standards of safety, quality and workmanship at all times.

     

    Key Requirements / Qualifications:

     

    • General secondary education or equivalent.
    • Completed a recognised Mechanical Fitting Apprenticeship or equivalent vocational qualification.
    • NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Fitting, ACE Card or equivalent industry-recognised certification.
    • Valid CCNSG Safety Passport or equivalent site-required safety certification.
    • Minimum two years' experience in the installation, assembly, maintenance and overhaul of mechanical plant and equipment.
    • Experience in the maintenance, overhaul and installation of heat exchangers, valves and associated mechanical systems.
    • Experience with heat exchanger component removal, bundle extraction and reinstatement activities is desirable.
    • Experience with flange management, gasket installation, bolt tightening, pressure testing and leak testing is desirable.
    • Previous experience working with pressure safety valves or supporting valve maintenance activities is desirable.
    • Experience within the oil & gas, petrochemical, thermal power generation or nuclear sectors is desirable.
    • Understanding of Human Performance principles and safe working practices.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, specifications and maintenance documentation.
    • Understanding of permit-to-work systems, risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
    • Critical Task training and site-specific authorisations as required by the project.
    • Strong teamwork and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, supervision and other disciplines.
    • Strong attention to detail when assembling, testing and inspecting mechanical equipment.
    • Demonstrates a strong commitment to safety, quality, housekeeping and continuous improvement.
