    Position Overview

    Carry out lifting, erecting, and rigging operations safely and efficiently, following all company, local, and legislative procedures and requirements. Prepare work areas for safe operation, ensure all activities meet quality standards, and support the completion of structural steelwork projects in complex industrial environments.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Read and interpret arrangement and isometric drawings to plan lifting and erecting activities.
    • Set up, inspect, and safely use rigging and lifting equipment for structural steelwork, pressure piping, vessels, and tanks.
    • Execute heavy and complex lifts, following critical task procedures and instructions given by the appointed person.
    • Carry out erection and dismantling of structural steelwork and related components.
    • Operate or assist in the operation of mobile cranes, overhead cranes, and heavy lift cranes when required.
    • Perform flame cutting operations as needed for rigging and erecting projects.
    • Maintain an up-to-date lifting equipment register and monitor all lifting operations for safety and compliance.
    • Accept permits to work and ensure adherence to safety systems and procedures.
    • Prepare work areas to meet health and safety standards before starting operations.
    • Report issues, hazards, or defects and recommend process improvements.
    • Mentor and guide trainees to develop skills in erecting and rigging activities.
    • Work cooperatively with team members, supervisors, engineers, customers, sub-contractors, and regulatory bodies.
    • Complete required documentation, including inspection checklists, logbooks, and permit records.
    • Support cost-effective project execution and contribute ideas for continuous improvement.

    Scope and Reporting

    • Report directly to the Site Rigging/Lifting Supervisor and Site Manager.
    • Liaise daily with supervising engineers, section engineers, site supervisors, and appointed persons.
    • Interface with customers, sub-contractors, and regulators as required.
    • Work as part of a wider services team onsite, without direct reports.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Completion of a full apprenticeship or vocational qualification (NVQ 3 or equivalent) in erecting, rigging, or moving loads.
    • Valid CCNSG Safety Passport (or equivalent).
    • Valid appropriate crane training where required (such as Polar Crane training).
    • Completed critical task and safety training as needed by site regulations.
    • At least two years' hands-on experience in heavy, complex lifting operations and structural steelwork, preferably in oil and gas, petrochemical, thermal, or nuclear sectors.
    • Demonstrated competence in using cranes, rigging gear, and lifting equipment for various lift categories.
    • Good understanding and application of health and safety procedures and human performance principles.
    • Ability to support ongoing professional development and training for self and others.
    • Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom; international experience is advantageous.

    Work Environment and Challenges

    • Work on site in industrial, sometimes hazardous environments and at height, often exposed to varied weather conditions.
    • Plan and conduct lifts involving large, heavy, and complex components.
    • Communicate cooperatively with internal teams, customers, sub-contractors, and on-site authorities.
    • Maintain high standards for safety, equipment care, and work quality.
    • Apply technical skills to flame cutting, rigging, and crane operation as job demands.
    • Respond rapidly and positively to changes in job scope or site demands.
