  • In Situ Machinists and Bolter (Contract)

    Job Summary

    The In Situ Machinists and Bolter (Contract) install, repair, and maintain mechanical components on site using portable machining and bolting equipment. This role ensures precise alignment and secure fastening of machinery and structures in various industrial settings. The contract position will support mechanical works at Drax Power Station during its annual outage.  

    Key Duties

    • Set up and operate portable machining tools to repair, modify, or fabricate machinery components on site
    • Carry out in situ facing, milling, drilling, and boring tasks to restore worn or damaged surfaces
    • Inspect and assess mechanical assemblies and structures before and after machining
    • Install and tighten mechanical fasteners using hydraulic or manual bolting tools
    • Check bolt tension and verify correct installation using torque or tensioning equipment
    • Read and interpret technical drawings, job specifications, and work procedures
    • Maintain accurate records of work activities, measurements, and completed repairs
    • Follow all safety procedures and use protective equipment during work on site
    • Work closely with clients and team members to complete projects in line with quality expectations and deadlines
    • Perform equipment maintenance and ensure tools are in safe working condition
    • Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing components for machining or bolting operations
    • Identify and report defects, hazards, or irregularities encountered during projects

    Required Qualifications

    • Proven experience in in situ machining or industrial bolting roles
    • Demonstrated ability to operate portable machining equipment and hydraulic or manual bolting tools
    • Knowledge of mechanical maintenance principles and workshop safety practices
    • Ability to read technical diagrams, schematics, and work plans
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work
    • Physical ability to handle heavy tools and equipment, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks at height
    • Good communication skills for collaborating with team members and clients
    • Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, and travel as required
    • Relevant trade certification or apprenticeship in machining or mechanical maintenance preferred
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Completion of safety certifications such as site induction or confined space entry, as needed for specific projects
