About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager with a strong background in the commercial delivery and procurement of major infrastructure projects, with particular expertise in NEC4 forms of contract.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing commercial strategy, governance, risk management, and contract administration across complex, high-value programmes. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving commercial performance, supporting business growth, and ensuring the successful delivery of projects from pre-contract through to execution.
Working closely with operational, engineering, procurement, and project delivery teams, you will provide strategic commercial leadership while ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, company governance, and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and oversee all commercial activities across major infrastructure and engineering projects within the nuclear defence sector
• Develop and implement commercial strategies that support business objectives, project delivery, and long-term growth
• Provide commercial leadership throughout the full project lifecycle, including pre-contract, procurement, contract award, and project execution
• Manage NEC3/NEC4 contract administration, ensuring effective commercial governance and compliance across projects
• Lead tendering, bid evaluation, contract negotiations, and commercial decision-making processes
• Drive robust cost management, forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting to ensure commercial performance targets are achieved
• Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities, implementing effective risk management strategies
• Provide strategic commercial advice and guidance to senior stakeholders, project teams, and business leadership
• Lead and support multidisciplinary commercial teams, fostering collaboration, performance, and professional development
• Manage client, subcontractor, and supply chain relationships to ensure successful commercial outcomes
• Support dispute avoidance and resolution activities, including management of change control, compensation events, and contractual claims
• Ensure adherence to company governance, policies, procedures, and industry best practice standards
Key Requirements:
Candidates should have significant experience in commercial management within major infrastructure, engineering, defence, nuclear, or construction environments, with a proven ability to lead commercial functions on complex, high-value programmes.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
• Extensive knowledge and practical experience of NEC3/NEC4 contracts and commercial management principles
• Proven experience leading commercial teams and managing commercial delivery across large-scale infrastructure projects
• Strong commercial acumen with excellent negotiation, analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills
• Experience developing and implementing commercial and procurement strategies within complex project environments
• A strong understanding of cost management, forecasting, change control, risk management, and contract administration
• The ability to interpret complex technical and contractual information and provide commercially sound solutions
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels
• Experience managing client relationships, subcontractor performance, and supply chain engagement
• Strong leadership capability with experience mentoring and developing commercial professionals
• High levels of organisation, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment
• Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
• Membership of a recognised professional body such as RICS, CICES, or equivalent is desirable
